New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s (R) shots at being a viable candidate for the White House have been tarnished by a bridge and it is not going away.
We all go over bridges once in a while. Generally they take us to the other side but in this case the George Washington Bridge in New Jersey has put up a political road block for Chris Christie and it is just not going away.Even though he was found not to be involved in the closing of the bridge, three of his personal friends he appointed to various positions were indicted on Friday. One even admitted he was guilty.
Former Christie Deputy Chief of Staff, Bridget Kelly and Port Authority Deputy Director Bill Baroni were each charged with nine criminal counts, including nine criminal counts including and fraud.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
The charges came after a former Christie ally and Port Authority appointee, David Wildstein plead guilty Friday to one charge of conspiracy to commit fraud on federally funded property and one civil rights violation.
U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, Paul Fishman said the following in an afternoon press conference:
They agreed to and did use public resources to carry out a vendetta and exact retribution.
Bridget Kelly also spoke for the first time at the press conference to profess her innocence. She was very critical of Wildstein and her former colleagues calling them “liars.”
I am not guilty of these charges. I never ordered or conspired with David Wildstein to close or realign lanes at the bridge for any reason much less for retribution.
Even though the indictment does not look good for Governor Christie, Fishman said the governor would likely avoid any criminal charges.
In Wildstein’s plea he admitted to using a “traffic study” as a cover up for the lane closures and he said they purposely used the first day of school to maximize the impact. He also admitted to purposely not alerting Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich and the police chief that lanes on the bridge were going to be closed.Based on the evidence that is currently available to us, we’re not going to charge anyone else in this scheme.
It will be very interesting to see how this dilemma unfolds in court.
