Sometimes in politics one never knows where someone’s loyalty lies. That is the case with Jose Mallea.
Mallea is a longtime friend of Marco Rubio’s and he was his 2010 Senate campaign manager. POLITICO broke the story that he is about to be hired as a Hispanic-outreach adviser for Jeb Bush.Mallea even supported Rubio during his West Miami Commission campaign in the 1990’s.
Mallea’s hiring was already etched in stone months ago. Sources close to Mallea and Rubio divulged the hiring to the Shark Tank’s Javier Manjarres over a month ago, but asked that he not talk about it.

If Mallea is hired by Bush’s Right to Rise political committee it would be a big insult to Marco Rubio. It also shows you cannot overestimate the loyalty Floridian Republicans have when it comes to elections.
To be fair, Mallea is also very loyal to the Bush family. From 2001-2005 he served in President George W. Bush’s administration.
Currently he is the national strategic director for the LIBRE initiative. It is a Latino-outreach organization which has ties to the Koch Brothers. That is a position he is expected to resign from on Friday after being there for four years.David Custin, a Florida political consultant and lobbyist from Miami-Dade said:
Jose has a good body of experience from working at the White House to where he is today – he understands Hispanic voters, their behaviors and their beliefs. He’s really competent, but he ain’t as good as me.
Custin went on to say many more Republican consultants, fundraisers and political operatives in Miami and Florida as a whole are likely to side with Bush. It is said Bush built up the GOP in Florida before he became governor.
You’re going to see a lot of this: guys going to work for Bush who worked for Marco or are even his friends. But Jose is a Jeb guy first, politically. This race between Jeb and Marco is amicable right now – and we’ll see how long that lasts – but it will filter out who’s really a Marco person and who wasn’t really a part of Jeb World.
