Independent Vermont senator, Bernie Sanders announced via email early Thursday morning he is running for president.
He said:After a year of travel, discussion and dialogue, I have decided to be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president.
In his announcement email he also highlighted economic inequality, climate change and the Citizens United Supreme Court decisions as key factors why he is running.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Don’t let the Independent or Democratic labels fool you, Sanders is nothing less then a socialist and if there was a popular Socialist party that would be his affiliation. He even calls himself a “democrat socialist.”
Sanders told the Associated Press:
People should not underestimate me. I’ve run outside of the two-party system, defeating Democrats and Republicans, taking on big-money candidates and, you know, I think the message that has resonated in Vermont is a message that can resonate all over this country.
Senator Sanders will outline his presidential plans further on Thursday during a press conference in Washington. He is also expected to hold a campaign rally in May.
Currently 3% of Democratic voters say they would vote for him in 2016. With that being said, it is going to be a uphill battle for him.
