After months of delays the Senate finally voted on President Obama’s Attorney General nominee, Loretta Lynch.
In a 56-43 vote she was confirmed even though she has voiced her opinion in the past that she agrees with Eric Holder and will essentially just continue his failed leadership.Ten Republican traders broke ties and sided with the Democrats to confirm her. If they did not vote yeah she would not have been confirmed.
The Republican traders were:
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
1. Kelly Ayottee (NH-R)
2. Orrin Hatch (UT-R)
3. Lindsey Graham (SC-R)4. Susan Collins (MA-R)
5. Jeff Flake (AZ-R)
6. Mark Kirl (IL-R)
7. Rob Portman (OH-R)
8. Thad Cochran (MS-R)9. Ron Johnson (WN-R)
10. Mitch McConnell (KY-R)
Contrary to what I speculated in the past, Senator Bob Menendez (NJ-D) voted for her as well. I find that ironic because he essentially voted in the person who would be overseeing his corruption trial.
Senators Ayotte, Kirk, Portman and Johnson are all up for reelection in 2016.
Presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz (TX-R) missed the vote but he released a statement condemning McConnell for having the vote. Cruz said:The Republican majority, if it so chose, could defeat this nomination. I would note there are a few voters back home that are asking what exactly is the difference between a Democratic and Republican majority.
Cruz also said he wanted the vote to be held up until they could come to a decision on Obama’s unconstitutional amnesty executive order.
In the past Senator Cruz called on Loretta Lynch to “denounce” President Obama’s amnesty reform. In turn she said she thought Obama’s actions were according to the law when it is obvious they violated the Constitution. Even the President himself has said on numerous occasions he could not use an executive order for immigration reform.
Obama released the following statement after the confirmation:
Today the Senate finally confirmed Loretta Lynch to be America’s next Attorney General – and America will be better off for it.
I not so sure about that. As previously mentioned she is out of the same mold as Eric Holder.
