As reported first by CNN, U.S. warships are being deployed to Yemen to monitor ships in the area that are traveling from Iran. Those ships are suspected of trafficking arms to Houthi rebels.
Even though U.S. ships have no authority to forcibly board Iranian-flagged ships the deployment is also meant to reassure allies in the region.Commander Kevin Stephens of the Fifth Fleet told CNN:
We are closely monitoring all maritime activity in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden. We are not going to discuss the number and types of vessels we are monitoring or speculate about the possible destination or cargo of those vessels.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
U.S. warships from the carrier group of the USS Theodore Roosevelt are joining vessels from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other ally nations to intercept a convoy of 7-9 Iranian vessels that are believed to be headed to Yemen. The allies are prepared to board the Iranian vessels if they enter Yemeni territorial waters.
On Sunday the Roosevelt aircraft carrier and the guided missile destroyer USS Normandy were moved into the waters off the coast of Yemen. Currently there are nine U.S. naval ships monitoring the coast of Yemen.
The Commander of Iran’s Regular Navy, Flotilla Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the following about his fleet:We don’t let anyone give us warnings and threats, because we are working according to international law and regulations . . . and we work for the security of our country and other countries.
Many have blamed President Obama’s flawed foreign policy for the deteriorating situation.
Also it is important to note the country we are deploying warships to monitor is the same country Obama wants to lift sanctions on and give a nuclear power plant to. Does that make any sense?
