On Saturday Egypt state-run Nile TV reported an Egyptian court has sentenced the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badie and 14 of his followers to death.
The criminal court sentenced the 15 defendants to death by hanging. They also sentenced 34 other defendants to life in prison for charges of plotting terrorist attacks against state facilities. All of those convicted were supporters of former President Mohamed Morsy, the country’s first democratically elected President. He was overthrown in a military coup in 2013.
During the unrest, hundreds of people were killed on both sides. Pro-Morsy supporters attacked police stations and in return security forces opened fire on demonstrators.
