Representative Dane Eagle (R) is sponsoring a bill in Florida that would require a parent or guardian to pay for their child’s offenses. The bill in question is CS/HB 235.
On Monday the bill passed its third committee. Eagle said:The fairness question should be ‘should the victim be held responsible?’ If we’re not holding the parents responsible, then we’re holding the victim responsible. You look at it in a comparison in that point, then I think we should go with the parents. A judge could say ‘OK, we understand your final situation, you may not be able to pay, let’s inflict some community service.'”
The bill states:

In the past a similar bill has passed the House but later died in the Senate. This time around it is seemingly getting more support.
