Am I the only one who finds this ironic? You can smoke pot in DC or have up to two ounces of marijuana on your person but down the street in the Capital it is still considered illegal federally.
After the citizens of the District of Columbia voted in November to pass Initiative 71, starting Thursday at midnight you can now possess up to two ounces of marijuana on your person as mentioned above. If you have more then two ounces it would be considered illegal and they would essentially get a misdemeanor and face a fine of $1,000 or spend up to six months in the slammer. Now you can also give up to one ounce as a gift so if DC’s residents are feeling generous and want to share some pot brownies, now you can. Also they can grow up to six plants but cannot possess more than three mature flowering plants at one time.
The law would also mean in DC you cannot grow marijuana outside of your residence so if you were planning on making a pot planter or have a pot canopy in your backyard that is illegal. You also cannot consume marijuana in public, sell marijuana regardless of the amount, drive while under the influence of marijuana. This one is tricky because unlike alcohol there is no legal limit so its deemed illegal to drive while under the influence of any amount and lastly you cannot have marijuana in your possession on federal land. Thus meaning you cannot go into the capital building and federal parks with some weed in your pocket.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Congress had a 30-day window to review the initiative after it was sent to them in January and they opted not to do so.
