Concealed-carry legislation is developing on the Hill and the National Rifle Association (NRA) and other Second Amendment advocates are hoping it is a big hit with the new Republican Congress.
They believe the Second Amendment does not end at the border of a state. That is why this law would allow citizens to protect themselves when they’re away from home.Chris Cox is the executive director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action and he feels:
The constitutional right to self-defense does not stop at a state’s borders. Law-abiding citizens should be able to exercise this fundamental right while traveling across state lines.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
If this law passes gun owners who have concealed weapon permits in their state will be able to bring their guns into states with tougher gun laws. Currently they run the risk of being arrested and many have been.
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) is sponsoring the bill in the Senate whereas Representative Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) is trying to push the bill in the House.
Senator Cornyn said:This bill strengthens two of our nation’s fundamental rights – the right of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and states’ rights to adopt laws that are best suited for their residents.
Even though President Obama will probably veto the bill if it is passed it will still be a big victory for gun advocates.
Erich Pratt, spokesperson for Gun Owners of America said:
Meanwhile in Florida, the Florida Carry, a pro-gun organization, has been pushing back against any and all anti-gun legislation, as well as fighting to allow college students to carry a concealed weapon on campus.Freedom of speech and freedom of religion doesn’t stop when you leave the state and neither should the Second Amendment.
The grassroots and membership-driven pro-gun organization, Florida Carry, has been sticking its trigger finger into the eyes of the anti-gun lobby at every turn, including filing a lawsuit against the University of Florida in January 2014, for its “illegal ban on guns and other defensive weapons in cars and homes.”-Shark Tank
