The Florida Stop Common Core Coalition (FSCCC) announced on Tuesday, Representative Debbie Mayfield (FL-R) has filed HB 743 which would provide education sovereignty for Florida.
Mayfield also tried to stop Common Core back in 2013.This current bill is two fold.
First, it would prohibit Florida from ceding sovereignty over education matters:
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
(1) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Department of Education or a district school board may not enter into any agreement, memorandum of understanding, or contract with a federal agency or private entity that cedes or limits the state’s or school district’s control over the development, adoption, or revision of the state’s academic content standards or corresponding assessments, including, but not limited to, agreements, memoranda, or contracts for funding public schools. (HB 743)
Second, it would prohibit standardized testing along with school grades and teacher evaluations based on those tests until the standards are changed.
Dr. Karen Effrem, executive director of FSCCC said:This is very important and excellent legislation. It both returns state sovereignty and local control to Florida and it works at dealing with the academically inferior, developmentally inappropriate, and psychologically manipulative Common Core/Florida standards.
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has been a staunch supporter of Common Core in the past and continues to be but Dr. Effrem hopes he will feel differently about the current bill Mayfield is trying to pass.
