Congratulations to Republican Congressman-elect Carlos Curbelo for defeating liberal Democrat Joe Garcia in arguably one of the most contentious congressional races in the nation.
All Curbelo had to do to win was reach out to his base of support, and let Garcia’s past actions and rhetoric sink the one-term congressman’s re-election bid.Garcia, who tried to run as a “bipartisan” and “moderate” member of Congress could not shake the gaffes he committed his past election cycle.
I am not referring to him picking his earwax and then eating it, rather his full-throated support for Obama and his failed policies.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Let me just add that Garcia saying that “Communism works” did not help him much with Cuban exiles in Miami-Dade County.
But to Garcia’s credit, he did stick to his guns. He doubled down on all of his liberal talking points of amnesty for illegal immigrants, raising the minimum wage, equal rights, and others.
Now we wait to see if Curbelo caucuses with the moderate, establishment wing of the House GOP, or takes a more conservative route and steers away from the squishy middle. So who else won their congressional races in Florida?
Every single incumbent except for Republican Steve Southerland was re-elected to the U.S. Congress.
