U.S. Representative Kathy Castor (D-FL) is urging the Justice Department to restore the voting rights to non-violent offenders who have completed their sentences.
She sent a letter to outgoing U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder stating:I believe that in operation, Florida is violating the U.S. Constitution’s tenets of due process and equal protection … Therefore, I respectfully request that the Justice Department conduct a thorough investigation into whether legal action is warranted against the state of Florida for its effective bar on civil rights restoration for non-violent offenders.
She is alleging since Gov. Rick Scott made it harder for non violent criminals to vote in 2011, that year rights were only restored to 78 people and 600,000 were not allowed to vote.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Earlier this year she also called on Governor Scott to restore voting rights to nonviolent criminals and she says he did not do anything. Now she is escalating her concerns and we will see what happens, if anything.
