Incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham sailed to a mostly easy renomination by Republican voters in the South Carolina Primary on June 10. But there are rumblings of a new challenge for Graham — from the libertarian right.

Thomas Ravenel confirmed Wednesday he is out collecting signatures to get on the November ballot for U.S. Senate against Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham.

Ravenel, 51, needs the signatures of 10,000 registered voters to get on the ballot.

“We are working to get the signatures,” said the former state treasurer Wednesday. “We fully expect to get them.”

Ravenel said he is using a vendor to get the names “and some grass roots folks.”

He said his plans will probably be disclosed by the end of next week and he wanted to get “all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed.”

Ravenel’s career in politics ended in disgrace in 2007 when resigned from the Treasurer’s Office and pled guilty to cocaine-related federal drug charges. Ravenel recently starred in some episodes of the BRAVO cable TV reality show “Southern Charm.”
