The unfortunate Department of Veteran’s Affairs scandal, in which dozens of allegations have been made against the VA about veterans having to wait extraordinary amounts of time to receive care, is worse than anyone thought.
There is a FOX News story out highlighting the fact that the VA has 1,080 job “current vacancies” throughout their network, with about 167 openings for “physicians,” even as the embattled government agency continues to have its healthcare practices scrutinized.A search of the words “VA” and “physician” yielded 167 jobs openings with top-range salaries of roughly $295,000 a year. There are 18 openings alone in the Phoenix VA Health Care System – the same one facing allegations that up to 40 people died while waiting for treatment.-FOX News
At VA medical center in Miami, veterans seeking care are treated by doctors from the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital, which is conveniently across the street.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
I have been to the Miami VA on numerous occasion with my dad, who is a disabled U.S. Army, veteran, and have seen first hand how broken the VA system really is.
University of Miami-Jackson hospital staff, for the most part, are the only doctors treating patients, and conducting most of the medical procedures, including surgeries.
I am not sure if all VA hospitals employ doctors like the Miami facility does, but it is a safe bet to assume that they do.Again, the problem is not so much the actual healthcare doctors are giving, but the administrative process.
About two weeks ago, my father received a letter from the VA, notifying him of an appointment for him to see a medical specialist he was granted for May 21, 2013.
The appointed was first requested back in December 2013, and since then, my father decided to travel to Colombia, South America, because he knew it would take months before he received an appointment date.
My father has been in Colombia since late February, and we are now almost in June. Do the math.Miraculously, after less than one week of missing his appointment, the VA sends a letter out to him about rescheduling the appointment.
Do you think the recent scandal has prompted the VA to step up their game? I do.
How the process of seeing a specialist or physician at the VA is pretty disturbing. According to my experiences with them, a request to be seen by a doctor has to be made. That request alone takes about a month to be addressed.
Once seen by the doctor (VA primary care), the patient then needs to wait (like my father just did) to receive an appointment to be seen for the actual ailment, if it is not life-threatening.
Let me just tell you, the waiting does not end there. The wait time at the VA facility is a all-day affair, even with a set appointment time. And here you have people like Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson saying that the VA is healthcare model that works, and needs to be emulated.
The VA is proof-positive that government-run healthcare (Obamacare) does not work, and that is why the need for a healthcare voucher for veterans seems to be resonating from both sides of the political aisle.
