While Texas Governor Rick Perry visits Florida to help his amigo, Florida Governor Rick Scott raise campaign dollars against Charlie Crist, perhaps the Lone Star governor will talk to Scott about how he banned Common Core education standards in Texas?
Back in 2013, Perry signed a bill, which passed the Texas House of Representatives by a margin of 140-2, into law that banned the Common Core State Standards from Texas. After receiving a hefty dose of conservative grassroots push back, Scott has pulled back some of his support for Common Core in Florida, by saying that did not support federal testing, as well as the data mining tactics Common Core practices to obtain personal information from students.
Scott now says he wants the state to make education decisions, not the federal government.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Senator Marco Rubio was the first high-profile elected official from Florida to openly state that he was against Common Core.
In an exclusive interview with the Shark Tank last year, Rubio said the following about Common Core:And I am very concerned, and quite frankly opposed to any effort to try to create some sort of national curriculum standard and then try to leverage the power of the federal government’s funding to force states to adopt a certain curriculum standard. State and local levels are the best places to come up with curriculum reform, and its something the federal government shouldn’t be deeply involved in.-Senator Marco Rubio
Rubio’s statement landed him in some hot water with his political mentor, former Governor Jeb Bush, who is leading the Common Core charge.
More on this to come. Stay tuned…
