Years of inaction and healthcare abuse over at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) has finally caught up to the inept bureaucracy, as more and more members of the U.S. Congress continue to call for full transparency and accountability of the VA.
The recent healthcare abuse accusations at the VA are widespread, especially in Florida, where the most amount of retired veterans reside. Joining fellow Floridians Congressman Ron DeSantis (R) and Governor Rick Scott, in asking for more veteran healthcare oversight is Florida Senator Marco Rubio.Governor Scott has recently accused the VA of blocking state healthcare inspectors from it’s hospital facilities, while Republican congressional candidate, Jorge Bonilla, has called for Shinseki to resign.
Rubio has penned a letter to VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, requesting that he “provide secret electronic wait list data for all Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC) in Florida,” after reports surfaced stating that veterans have died while waiting for medical care.

Rubio’s letter lays it all out for Shinseki.
“I am deeply concerned about media reports referencing a secret electronic wait list maintained by a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center (VAMC) in Arizona that may have caused delayed medical care for certain veterans, resulting in injuries and even deaths.I understand you have rightly directed an immediate investigation into the matter,” wrote Rubio. “However, I believe further steps need to be taken to determine if other VAMCs are engaging in similar practices.
The VA needs to obtain data on all VAMC’s timeframes for diagnosis and treatment, and determine if any veterans died or were injured in situations where there was delayed medical care.
“I am writing to request you obtain, and provide me with electronic wait list data for all VA medical centers in Florida, and please include information from the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in Biloxi, MS since it treats veterans residing in Florida’s Panhandle,” continued Rubio.
“In addition to that data I am also seeking your assurances that the VAMCs treating Floridians are not keeping their own separate, secret wait lists that have not been disclosed.”
