The Democratic Party divide continues in Florida, as ‘old-school’ Democrats, who are not convinced that Charlie Crist represents their political views, are looking to one of their own to unseat Florida Governor Rick Scott, U.S. Senator Bill Nelson.
Nelson has gone on the record to say that he is not interested in running for governor of Florida, but now things may have changed, as Nelson’s chief of staff, Pete Mitchell has told some Democrat loyalists that Nelson was now considering a run against Scott.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Bill Nelson, the former astronaut, is a very ‘tangy’ liberal Democrat at the core. He has given a full throated support for Obamacare, and every other left-leaning piece of legislation that the President served up and supported.
Nelson’s natural liberal bona fides would galvanize the Democratic base, and significantly contrasts him with the political evolutionist, Charlie Crist, were he decide to run for governor,There is no doubt that Nelson and the entire Democratic Party is paying close attention to the daily barrage of negative press Crist is receiving from both the Florida Republican Party and news agencies, after years of flip-flipping, fueled by nothing more than selfish political opportunism.
It is a safe bet to take that the Democratic Party establishment is worried that there are enough Democrats that will not come out and support a Charlie Crist gubernatorial nomination.
If Nelson decides to run for governor, it would be a safe gamble, considering that, if he could lose the race, he still keep his Senate seat. Now if Nelson wins (which is considered highly doubtful) it opens up his Senate seat for appointment, which he would then appoint another Democrat of his, or the Democratic Party’s liking.
Can we all say Senator Debbie Wasserman Schultz?
Republicans want Crest, for obvious reasons. But if Nelson runs, it could spell a bit of trouble for the GOP.Follow the Shark Tank on Twitter and Facebook
