The accusation is quickly spreading around Sarasota county and the entire state of Florida, that former Charlie Crist Republican and Rubio foe, Richard DeNapoli, who is currently running for the State House in District 74 in Sarasota, is nothing more than an opportunist carpetbagger.DeNapoli, who currently resides in Nokomis, Florida, and narrowly won the 2010 Broward GOP chairman’s election by 4 votes, on a second ballot, left his post as chairman in 2012 after a couple of the past chairmen of the county party refused to support his re-election bid.
The election required two ballots. DeNapoli won 129 votes. Former Davie Mayor Tom Truex won 125 votes…

On the first ballot, DeNapoli received 139 votes and Truex received 78 votes.
Before the squabbling that preceeded the second round of voting Jay Narang, who got 45 votes, and Gary Robinson, who got 14 votes, both endorsed Truex.-Sun Sentinel
DeNapoli announced that he would not seek re-election because he was going to pursue a ” job opportunity in another part of the state,” but never divulged exactly where he would take on the new job. (Miami Herald)
It was later discovered that his short-lived” job opportunity” in question was practicing law in the Tampa Bay area. According to the current Pinellas County GOP Chairman, Michael Guju, DeNapoli served about a month as counsel for the Pinellas County Republican Party,confirming that DeNapoli had initially moved to Pinellas County, Florida.
Pinellas County is coincidentally the home of Charlie Crist and many other Crist supporters, who DeNapoli is said to have kept in close contact with.
In less than 8 months of leaving his elected position of Chairman of the Broward GOP, DeNapoli has moved twice, first to Pinellas, and from there to Sarasota, where he has announced his run for office.
DeNapoli was recently confronted by a Sarasota resident about being a carpetbagger, who said that DeNapoli responding to his question with a blunt, ‘So, doesn’t everyone do it.’DeNapoli is running in a contested primary race against former U.S. Army veteran and Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Julio Gonzalez.
