At yesterday’s campaign rally in Caracas, Acting President Nicolás Maduro asked Venezuelans to voluntarily disarm as part of an anti-crime campaign. In so doing, Maduro echoes the American gun-grabbing left.
Never mind for one minute that the regime bears great responsibility for Venezuela’s skyrocketing murder rate, or that there is already a firearms ban in place. Given the regime’s rhetoric in the wake of Chavez’ death, it is clear that such bans do not necessarily target individuals loyal to El Comandante Presidente.
Maduro’s unvarnished call for disarmament mirrors our own progressive gun-grabbers right here in the good ‘ole U.S. of A, and should deliver a shocking wake-up call to anyone with even the slightest vested interest in defending their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Maduro doesn’t even bother with hunting and self-defense non-sequiturs, or try to make goofy recommendations á la Shotgun Joe; he goes right to “give me the guns” mode.

As gun-control debates rage throughout our country, it is quite instructive to see a budding tyrant -who is facing an election that could begin to unwind the regime, mind you- parrot many of the same dogmatic talking points that our own lefty gun-grabbers are programmed to spit out.
When you think about it, in fact, Maduro sounds quite Bloombergian…from his anti-crime framing, to the statement that weapons only belong in the hands of the State. Note the “it has to stop” mantra, as well as the compulsion to disarm the populacein the interest of Doing Something.
I wonder, though, what Maduro thinks about Big Gulps.
