Wasserman Schultz tried to get away with stating that Paul Ryan’s proposed reform of Medicare would affect current Medicare beneficiaries 65 and over, and kudos to Blitzer for correcting her repeatedly. After finally accepting that the proposed Romney/Ryan Medicare reform doesn’t affect current enrolled in the plan or people 55 and older, Wasserman Schultz opined-

Instead, we would shed that safety net, it would no longer be a guarantee, it would become a voucher…
Lodging complaints about “arbitrary cutoffs” and Medicare being a “guarantee” shows you the extent of the Democrats’ willful blindness as it pertains to entitlement reform. Medicare itself was an “arbitrary” program when it was originally conceived, and the Democrats’ plan moving forward is to continue to whistle dixie as an epic tidal wave of debt crashes ashore that will end all entitlement programs as we’ve known them. The Democrats’ proposed solution for entitlements this campaign is twofold- continue to deny that we have a problem and to continue making promises to future Medicare beneficiaries they have no business making in the first place.
This is a winnable debate for Republicans provided they continue reinforce the fact that not only did President Obama rip $700 billion out of the current Medicare program to pay for Obamacare, he continues to ignore the Medicare Trustees’ most recent report which has Medicare going bankrupt in 12 years and unable to meet its obligations unless structural reforms are made to the program.
If we’re not successful in reforming Medicare with Paul Ryan’s very reasonable approach- aka “ending Medicare as we know it” as Democrats continue to hyperventilate about it- our foreign creditors will be the ones taking care of that for those of you out there who are 55 and younger- on their own terms.
Who among you out there would prefer to do it China’s terms rather than Paul Ryan’s?
