Allen West U.S. Senate Run Under Consideration
by Javier Manjarres
Earlier this year, I put forth a possible scenario that I believed made complete political sense and yet caused quite a stir- I speculated that it would make sense if Congressman Allen West were to for the U.S. Senate seat that Democrat Bill Nelson currently holds. At the time, many close to the West camp became upset with the posting of the story, and it caused some backlash because some felt that the suggestion was premature and distracted from the job the newly elected congressman from Florida’s 22th Congressional District was undertaking. Because of the speculation the article generated, West himself stated that he would not run for the Senate seat and reiterated that he would run for reelection. After the story was posted, scores of pro-West supporters from around the country chimed in on the fact that a U.S. Senate run would be more realistic and made more sense than the buzz already going around about a West presidential run in 2012. Now, the speculation has been revived after Congressman West stated on a West Palm Beach newscast that the door to a U.S. Senate run is “cracked very slightly.”
Here’s an excerpt from the post on March, 15 2011:
The idea of a Rubio-West one-two punch in the U.S. Senate is the Democrat Party’s worst nightmare. Florida is already considered to be the”ground zero” of the 2012 general election, and by adding a West senate run into the mix, we will witness the battle of all political battles here in the Sunshine State. This scenerio would also bring to the forefront the 20th Congressional District race between DNC Chair and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) and business woman Karen Harrington (R). Wasserman Schultz was picked by President Obama to help deliver Florida in 2012, but now it seems she will have to defend her Congressional seat, as a considerable Harrington buzz has spurred up, and will only continue to grow as the election gets closer- this will be a race to watch.
