Newly announced Republican presidential candidate Tim ‘T-Paw’ Pawlenty was in the Miami area today for a campaign stop at the Biltmore Hotel, as he held meetings with supporters and potential donors for his campaign. After taking questions from the assembled media, Governor Pawlenty dove into the Shark Tank for a few minutes and discussed why he is running for office and why he believes President Obama should be a one term President.Pawlenty did not mince words in the least and directly called out President Obama’s questionable and “naive” statements that Israel should roll back their borders to their pre-1967 boundaries. Pawlenty added, “What he is offering is a naive, and in many cases tardy, but equivocal approach to our security interests in our relationships with key allies around the world – bullies and folks who would challenge the United States of America and our friends want to see first and foremost confidence, stability and strength, that’s not what he’s offering.”
I asked him what sort of VEEP candidate he would be looking for were he to win the Republican nomination. Interestingly, Governor Pawlenty brought up the name of Florida Senator Marco Rubio, a name he believes will be on the shortlist of whomever the nominee ultimately is. I tried to get Governor Pawlenty to commit to answering as to whether or not Rubio was on his shortlist of VEEP choices, but I was not able to deliver- next time 😉
