Congressman Allen West has taken some flak from his supporters for voting against a provision that would have repealed $100 million in funding for the construction of school-based health centers that were designated by Obamacare. In his D.C. office, Congressman West expounded on why he voted the way he did- it’s clear that West is committed to repealing ObamaCare, but he believes the House Leadership’s present strategy to defund Obamacare is more symbolic than substantive at this juncture.

West also addressed the Department of Justice’s unconscionable decision to order ATF agents to allow guns into the hands of known criminals in Mexico, a policy that was bound to backfire and is now linked to the murder of a U.S. Federal Agent. The “Gunrunner” program was run by the ATF to illegally sell assault weapons to individuals so they sales of the weapons could be traced back to the buyers in Mexico.  Mexico has accused the U.S. of being responsible for the violence that has rampant along the border region, claiming that U.S. Gun Shops to sell assault weapons, that have been used to commit crimes once they cross over the Mexico-U.S. border.

Ironically and hypocritically enough, President Obama has also put the blame on the gun lobby, an assertion that shows just how out of touch this administration is- the ultimate responsibility lies with Attorney General Eric Holder and his Department of Justice who sanctioned the program. It appears that  President Calderon and Mexican officials were correct in blaming the U.S. for selling illegal guns that have fueled the ongoing crime wave that has plagued the country.  That President Obama has given President Calderon legitimate  grounds for blaming U.S. policies for increased border violence probably isn’t the source of shame that it should be, as our President is always most comfortable when America is put on the defensive and the recipient of blame.
