Last Friday, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz participated in a protest rally outside of congressional candidate Allen West’s offices in Deerfield Beach, FL in an attempt to call attention to West’s purported “extremism” and his associations. When I asked her if this protest was in any way different from ‘Tea Party’ protests that have sprung up throughout the country, Congresswoman Wasserman-Schultz responded by saying that “I don’t see any Swastikas or any pictures of the President in blackface or burned in effigy here.”
Wasserman-Schultz’s general election opponent is Republican Karen Harrington. Her campaign issued a statement to the media concerning Wasserman-Schultz’s highly questionable characterization of the ‘Tea Party’ and its participants:“For Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to characterize the ‘Tea Party’ in the manner she did not only displays a blatant ignorance about the movement’s legitimate concerns, she also casts aspersion on the countless number of ordinary Americans who comprise this movement and are simply exercising their constitutional rights. The ‘Tea Party’ movement is a heartfelt grassroots movement of concerned citizens that are alarmed about the direction in which our country is headed, and Debbie’s blanket characterization of them is an intentional slander of the millions of ordinary Americans who come from all different walks of life and who hail from many different backgrounds.
The ‘Tea Party’ movement is rightly concerned about our federal government’s fiscal irresponsibility and reckless spending, and its adherents hold both parties to blame for our predicament. The ‘Tea Party’ came into existence as a reaction to President Obama and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s extreme agenda that pushes for greater government control over the private sector and unsustainable government spending, yet Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is still oblivious to the fact that it is her divisive agenda that is the very source of concern for these millions of people who do not want to follow her down this dangerous path any further.”
