President Trump spoke today at FIU’s Modesto Maidique campus, calling on Nicolas Maduro to step down as Venezuela’s President. In addition, President Trump directed some words against the rise in socialism among some voters through politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders.
Also, in attendance, Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio along with Governor Ron DeSantis spoke to the crowd of supporters, largely Venezuelans, and assured them that the United States supports Juan Guaidó.
The Florida lawmakers rejected the oppression against the Venezuelan people from the Maduro regime, and they called for Maduro to step down as President of Venezuela to allow the people to take part in free and fair elections.
Outside of FIU’s convocation center, supporters gathered to make it into the event on time, sporting MAGA hats and shirts in support of the President. They also wore hats in support of Venezuela, reading Make Venezuela Great Again. Others just stood by as they saw Florida’s leadership speak on behalf of freedom and democracy, taking in their words under the Florida sun.
Also gathered outside were protestors against President Trump, holding signs in support of Nicolas Maduro and calling for the U.S. to get their “hands off of Venezuela.” Many spoke and rejected Juan Guaidó.
They chanted that socialism is not the problem and that the true problem is dictators while wearing T-shirts with the likeness of Che Guevara and Hugo Chavez.
Detractors and supporters of the President traded verbal blows from either side of the street in front of FIU’s convocation center, and the atmosphere grew tense.
However, support for socialism was quickly drowned out as Venezuelans chanted for Venezuela to be liberated from Maduro’s oppressive regime.
As the event got underway, sweat trickling down the face of both supporters and detractors, everyone’s ears were perked and ready to join in the conversation of what President Trump had to say.
Speaking on the Venezuelan people, President Trump assured that “they are turning the page on socialism.”
President Trump added, “they are turning the page on dictatorship, and there is no going back.”
