There are very few issues Florida Republican and Democratic legislators agree on, but the prospect of drilling off the state’s shores is one of the rare exceptions.
No one. I mean no one wants to see oil exploration being conducted off the coast of Florida. Since the Trump administration entertained the idea of possibly drilling offshore, the state’s entire congressional caucus banded together in opposition of the idea to “drill baby drill.”Two of the state’s most outspoken critics of drilling off Florida’s coast have been Rep. Francis Rooney (R) and Senator Bill Nelson (D). Rooney has been butting heads with House Republican leadership over their support to drill, while Sen. Nelson has been reminding us all about the Deepwater Horizon incident of 2010 that caused the largest oil spill in U.S. waters.
We shouldn’t be playing games with our coastal communities and the economy of our entire state. We must do everything we can to ensure another disaster like Deepwater Horizon never threatens our state again. https://t.co/Fd4E4Ryh9Q
