Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) has come out defending U.S. Attorney General Jeff Session over the recent statement President Trump made about being “disappointed” in his pick for attorney general.
Trump is even said to be considering replacing Sessions, but the president brushed off any speculation of a Sessions firing by calling the rumor as “fake news” coming from the “Amazon Washington Post.”Rubio tweeted that Sessions was “honest & transparent,” adding that even when two two were at odds over immigration reform in the US Senate, the former senator proved to be a fair, yet a “tough adversary.”
The Rubio and Session immigration tussle was not known to the public, as the issue was negotiated and fought behind closed doors.

During a 2014 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing with then-Attorney General Eric Holder, Sessions took a walk with me to his senate office where he told me how he tried in earnest to convince Rubio not to back the Senate ‘Gang of 8’ immigration reform bill of 2013.
Sessions added that Rubio, who he knew to be as hawkish on immigration as he was, appeared focused on trying to come across as bipartisan on the issue, contending that Rubio may have had his eye on the presidency in 2016.
Sessions was right, Rubio was focused on a presidential run. In the end, while Rubio’s pro-legal immigration position helped him win his historic 2010 US Senate race in Florida, his nuanced pro-pathway to citizenship immigration position in 2013 eventually sunk his 2016 presidential campaign.Served with Jeff Sessions for 6 yrs.
