The Florida Democratic Party held their annual “Leadership Blue Gala” at the famed Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida, where former Vice President Joe Biden gave the keynote address.
Of the whopping 1,300 people in attendance, the who’s who of the Democratic Party was there, including members of the Florida congressional delegation, Reps. Alcee Hastings, Lois Frankel, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Senator Bill Nelson.
Prior to Vice President Biden taking the stage, the room was bustling with state and federal Democratic candidates, like gubernatorial candidates Gwen Graham and Andrew Gillum, congressional candidate Tim Canova and others, pressing the flesh with potential donors and supporters.
As expected, Biden’s speech was filled with the usual rip-roaring, red meat Democratic Party talking points. The crowd ate up Biden’s every word.
About halfway through his address, the former vice president addressed what he feels is a “phony debate” that has been going on within the Democratic Party.
We can’t get bogged down, I hope I don’t offend anybody here, in this phony debate going on in the Democratic Party.”
Biden made the point that both sides of the debate of whether the Democratic Party should be less or more progressive, saying that both arguments “are not inconsistent.”
Then Biden talked about how consistently progressive he has always been, saying that he very same “middle class white guys” that backed his past campaigns, voted for “a black guy named Barack Obama.”
