Floridians voted for Amendment 1 last November and by doing so they instructed the legislature to allocate $700 million dollars to environmental conservation. Now environmental groups are pointing out that is not what happened.
Lawmakers should be able to pass the budget on Friday but it is said they only put $17 million into Florida Forever for environmental conservation.Eric Draper with Audubon Florida told News4Jax:
The Legislature only put $17 million into Florida Forever; that’s about one-tenth what we ask them to put with Amendment 1 dollars. That’s way off base for what the voter thought they were voting for.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Will Abberger helped get Amendment 1 on the ballot on November 14th and he said $17 million is a slap in the face to the Floridians that voted for more. He said:
Lawmakers are saying the amendments do meet the requirements.Frankly, that’s an insult to Florida voters. When the 4.2 million voted yes on Amendment 1 last November, they voted to funds the land acquisition trust fund.
Representative Steve Crisafulli stated:
I think the budget shows it covers the acquisition of land and water.
Environmentalists are going to leave that up the court to decide because they plan on suing. Even if a judge does rule in their favor, funding levels probably will not change this year.
