U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, Mark Lippert, was attacked in South Korea by a 55-year old man with a history of unpredictable behavior.
The ambassador was about to give a speech Thursday morning when the suspect, Kim Ki-Jong attacked him with a razor blade, slashing his arms and face. Ki-Jong apparently attacked him because he wanted an end to the South Korea and U.S. military drills and he wanted to better South Korea’s relations with North Korea. The drills he were talking about happen once a year and they are met with harsh criticism from North Korea.
Ki-Jong was also arrested before for throwing a piece of concrete at a Japanese Ambassador to South Korea in 2010 but his two-year prison sentence was suspended.

North Korea said the current slashing incident was a “knife attack of justice,” they also said it reflected “anti-US sentiment” in South Korea.
South Korea on the other hand condemned the incident. South Korean President Park Geun-hye said:
This incident is not only a physical attack on the U.S. ambassador, but an attack on the South Korea-U.S. alliance and it can never be tolerated.
Ambassador Lippert is in stable condition after undergoing more than two hours of surgery to repair his face. He also had to get 80 stitches and he will most likely remain hospitalized for three to four days.
