The controversial $1.1 trillion spending bill, which President Obama was openly supporting and lobbying lawmakers to pass, is now on its way to the U.S. Senate after the House passed the bill by a 219-206 margin,
Conservatives in the House were joined by Democrats like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA), in railing against the bill that funded President Obama’s agenda, including his recent executive amnesty actions.Earlier in the day, Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Steve King (R-IA) spoke to reporters about their support of the “King amendment,” an amendment sponsored by Rep King that would completely defund Obama’s “illegal work permits,” by just allowing the bare-bone funding of the government for 30-60 days, until the new Republican-controlled Congress settled in.
Idaho Congressman Raul Labrador (R) stated the following about the passage of the bill:

The last two days have been particularly outrageous with the process driven by a handful of people behind closed doors. The result is a 1,603-page bill larded with pork and favors for special interests. The funding bill also fails to address the president’s unconstitutional immigration order.
“I promised Idahoans I would do everything in my power to stem the growth of our now-$18 trillion debt, which Congress refuses to do. Next year, with both the House and Senate in Republican hands, my sincere hope is we quit stalling and enact meaningful spending reforms.”
Florida Congressman Tom Rooney (R-FL) surprisingly sided against his fellow conservatives, and supported Speaker Boehner’s push to pass, what many on the Hill called the bill, “Obama’s agenda.”
With the GOP controlling the entire Congress in 2015, why not wait until next year to take on this spending bill?“Our bill brings federal spending to the lowest level in nearly a decade,” Rooney said. “Instead of punting with another Continuing Resolution, and doing the same things we’ve been doing for years, we’re making much-needed reforms. We’re holding federal agencies accountable by cutting spending on programs that don’t work, investing in programs that are effective, and ensuring your taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and responsibly. A CR simply kicks the can down the road.
“Additionally, by only funding the Department of Homeland Security until early next year, we’re giving ourselves the best chance to fight President Obama’s executive amnesty. We’ll have control of the House and Senate, and he won’t be able to threaten to take away Social Security payments, withhold military pay, or shut down the national parks if he doesn’t get his way. We’ll have this fight on our terms, with clear majorities, and with the support of the American people. This is the best possible strategy to address the President’s amnesty order.
“By cutting spending on programs that don’t work, we can fully fund effective measures that will help families, small businesses, veterans and farmers in Florida’s heartland.”
