House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D) was recently at a fundraiser in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he told the Sun-Sentinel newspaper that President Obama’s economy was “not moving as fast” as Democrats would like.
Hoyer gives partial blame to the Republicans for what he calls their “refusal to cooperate” with the administration and their Democrat colleagues in the House to help the economy move along.Note that Hoyer, really has no other choice, but to acknowledge President Obama’s economic failings.
“The president’s popularity is lower than we would like it to be, lower than I think is justified. All of that is tending to be a damper on the Democratic Party,” Hoyer said. “On the other hand I think the American people are very upset with the gridlock in Congress and hold Republicans responsible. When you see the polls, Republicans are 10 to 12 points behind Democrats. But the problem is neither one of us are very high.”
