The Miami Herald picked up on the Naples Daily News story about congressional candidate Curt Clawson’s past record as the top executive of Hayes Lemmerz. The company closed seven U.S. plants, laid off 1,300 workers, and suffered an employee on-the-job death during Clawson’s tenure.
Like every workplace injury or death, the incident with Hayes Lemmerz’s former employee, Shawn Boone, who died from a explosion at the plant he was working at in Indiana, is unfortunate, but needs to be addressed.According to an opposition dump on Clawson that is being circulated, under Clawson’s watch, Hayes Lemmerz had several OSHA violations, which between the years 1996-2001, manage to receive two violations per year.
Clawson’s company apparently “outsourced jobs” and “relied on an Obamacare bailout” to help it move along, or stay afloat.
During his nine years as the top executive for Hayes Lemmerz, the company laid off more than 1,300 workers, shuttered seven plants in the U.S., and taxpayers covered hundreds of millions of dollars in pension and health-care costs shortly before selling to a Brazilian company in 2011, according to filings with industry regulators and media reports.
It will be interesting to see how Clawson explains away his old companies mishaps and his financial windfalls as CEO of Hayes Lemmerz.take our poll - story continues belowDo you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)

Clawson’s initial base salary comprised 25 percent of his overall compensation.
Clawson’s salary ranged from a low of $1.3 million in 2001 to a peak of $12.3 million in 2003. The salary differences were driven by factors such as bonuses and stock options, according to proxy statements filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.-Naples Daily News
Clawson’s past shares some parallels with that of Florida Governor Rick Scott, in that Scott was also the top executive of HCA, and like Clawson, was ultimately responsible for what happened under his watch.
Both men received huge salaries and bonuses from their respective companies. The buck stops at the top.
Now without like I am trying to explain away Clawson’s Hayes Lemmerz’s past, or even Scott’s past at HCA, neither Clawson or Scott were hands-on in the actual daily operations of former companies.
Again, they were ultimately responsible for everything that happened under their watches, but I doubt Clawson personally inspected machinery or cast molds, nor do I believe Rick Scott wrote up healthcare policies.Clawson, like his chief opponent in the Republican special election in FL-CD 19, Lizbeth Benacquisto, is campaigning on fully repealing Obamacare.
Both candidates have a lot of explaining to do.
Clawson needs to explain the following questions-
- Why did Hayes Lemmerz need Obamacare assistance?
- Why did Hayes Lemmerz have so many OSHA violations and fines under his leadership?
- Why did Hayes Lemmerz have to downsize operations, leading to a bunch of lay offs
- Why did he has chose to skip forums
Benacquisto needs to explain the following questions-
- Why did she vote to expand Medicaid under Obamacare in 2013? **Update-Fl Senate voted against Medicaid expansion on 3/11/2014
- Why did she co-sponsored a pro-Common Core bill, but now because Common Core is considered a bad apple, she is against it?
- Why is her PAC’s colluding (obvious that there is) with two other PAC’s, who are colluding with the state GOP, to attacking Clawson?
- How does she feel about her husbands recent past, in which he worked against the GOP by donating and bundling huge sums of dollars for Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Nelson, and many others, who faced off against Republicans?
- Is there any chance that he could he influence her judgment with his liberal views, if she is elected to Congress?
- Why does she continues to skip candidate forums?
