Republicans in the House of Representatives introduced H.J Res. 72, a bill that would fund certain departments of the U.S. Government, like the Parks service and the Veterans Affairs Department. The bill failed to pass, as the legislators could not get the two-thirds majority vote needed to fund these programs already being affected by the current government shutdown.
The vote to restore funding for Veterans came down to 264-164, and garnered support from 33 Democratic legislators.
