The Obama Administration is beset by scandals at home and abroad. In addition to the emerging facts of the attack against the United States Consulate at Benghazi, the administration must now protect itself against charges that the I.R.S. improperly targeted conservative groups, and against the emerging Department of Justice wiretapping scandal. While we do not yet know everything there is to know about these scandals, one thing is clear. Our government is out of control.
These scandals are linked to each other by an undercurrent of tyranny. At every turn, a vast and expansive government deems itself above accountability and/or scrutiny, and refuses to be held accountable for its repeated trampling of our most cherished freedoms.
If ever there was proof that what is “too big to fail” already has, it is this bureaucracy- at this particular juncture of history. Gallup merely confirms what many of us already know to be true…that the federal government has way too much power. This bureaucracy, having far from its purpose of serving the People, has deemed itself chief executor of the policy priorities of the Obama administration.
These scandals may be the result of an overreaching government gone wild, but we enabled that overreach by allowing Congress to abdicate its oversight responsibilities to unaccountable rulemakers within the executive branch. It is absolutely appropriate to investigate these scandals and punish those responsible wherever applicable. However, we must also hold Congress accountable.
The stakes for the 2014 midterm have never been higher. Either we stand up to tyranny, or we abandon the American Revolution and concede that the D.C. bureaucracy, beyond running our lives, now has standing to adjuducate whether we even have the rights we say we have anymore.
