**Update-Karen Harrington to Challenge Failed BREC Chairman Richard DeNapoli

by Javier Manjarres

**Update-Richard DeNapoli has just announced he will not be running for re-election against Harrington. DeNapoli stated that he all of a sudden, received job opportunity he couldn’t pass up. I call BS. DeNapoli was being ignored by all of the past Brec Chairman, and read the writing on the wall. Richare DeNapoli resigns in shame.

Former Republican congressional candidate Karen Harrington has decided to run for Chairman of the Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC), challenging  the embattled and excuse-ridden Richard DeNapoli.

Even though Harrington came up short ,  she has won the respect  of scores of Americans, both in the state and around the country for taking on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz in both the 2010 & 2012 general elections.

While Harrington takes responsibility for falling short of her goal of beating ‘DWS’ DeNapoli has only given excuses for why Republicans lost in Broward, never taking any  responsibility for the blatant smackdown that Republicans sustained in Broward county. Harrington is also announcing  the support of the past BREC Chairmen. Ouch!

Ronald Reagan once stated that: “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”  Unfortunately, our local party has suffered from a lack of such leadership. Rather, than just complain about the results of the last election cycle, I want to be a part of the solution to make sure that our party never suffers the same kind of defeat that recently occurred and I need your help to achieve this goal.

As you know I ran for Congress against Debbie Wasserman Schultz and despite the fact that she is an entrenched Democrat incumbent and chair of the Democrat National Party, my campaign had more than four hundred volunteers, we raised over two million dollars, knocked on over twenty thousand doors and made over hundred ten thousand personal calls.  I personally walked precincts almost every day for the last 2 years and was not afraid to visit with Democrats or Independents to convince them to vote for a Republican candidate.

I want to take the lessons learned from my campaign (especially the one about how to build an effective and inclusive campaign team) to our local party and therefore am announcing today that I will be a candidate for Chair of the Broward County Republican Executive Committee.  In the next few days I will be forming my team to assist me in this endeavor and will be announcing the slate of officers who will run with me to restore our party to relevancy in this county.  Further, I will share my proposed agenda to lead this party, restore unity and to elect Republicans in this county.

I am proud to announce that I already have the support of former chairmen of the Broward party, as well as local elected officials, and I look forward to speaking with you personally and asking for your support.  Thank you!

We do not need a change. We need total make-over. We need improvement. Get in there, run for ‘We the People’ and not for ‘me the person.’ I do not know who may consider running but I feel that you could possibly be the one for improvement.

Good luck and God Bless you!!!

When Karen Harrington Was running against DWS for Congress… Karen was endorsed by Senator Marco Rubio, Governor Jeb Bush and Michelle Bachman just to name a few. With connections like these Karen would be a great asset to BREC! We need new blood. Go Karen!!!!!!!!!

    YEs, this made my day!
God Bless you Karen, you do a much better job!

I’m hesitant to support any candidate that runs an all-white slate…and will campaign against them.

Harrington was a very polished and qualified Congressinal nominee with exceptional media skills. She’s unflappable.

If she runs, she should put at least two non-white minorities, preferably women on her slate. They would garner easy, free and consistent minority media coverage where the GOP does very, very poorly, almost by design.

Carolyn Kennedy, a wonderful professional Back lady, who helped provide very credible and visble leadership for the local and state Herman Cain and Rick Santorum candidacies, immediately comes to mind.

Jerry Narang does, too…but there is not a huge Asian voting population in Broward…beyond me :) But he does look Hispanic, and that helps in minority audiences !!!

There is a new Hispanic BREC member who was appointed to work in the Reagan White House, but 4got his name.

Our Chair should not be exclusively dedicated to preaching to the choir and fundraising…that model does not work in today’s Information Age and changing electorate.

Media skills desperately matter and should be required; and I will loan my considerable skills to any minority BREC Board Officer who will devote themselves relentlessly to such an effort.

But de-facto anti-outreach officers who aggressively avoid the media and minorities are not really useful to our future.

Matt – I know Karen will be an effective leader for BREC. She has the wisdom and humility to work with all Republicans. She is being supported by past Chairmen and that tells me that she will have experience on her side. Knowing Karen, she will listen and then formulate winning strategies for our party in Broward. God Bless ! – Jay Narang.

White males – no matter how qualified – need not apply. Got it.

Melanin content of messenger more important than content of message. Got it.

Politics of envy and divisiveness trumps founding principles since it won the election, so we should play that game too.

I know your “considerable media skills” rely upon selling the sizzle, not the steak, but that’s NOT the party of Reagan’s style.

  • Chuck Tiedje

Karen – I congratulate you on your willingness to take on the relatively thankless job of moving our local GOP forward. Let me know how I can help – God bless you!

As an ultra-conservative Politico I cannot say how happy to see Karen running for the BREC chair position. I believe that Karen will be a shining example to the Broward voter as a true Conservative Ultra White Republican. Also I would like to thank Richard Dinapoli for all of his hard work these past 2 years.

    • BoGo

Sorry, your intended sarcasm escapes me.

      “Ultra White Republican”?

    • Jack Murphy

Is it really smart to start in playing the race card in our group really? Karen is very qualified to be the Chain and Mz Kennedy would be a great #2 with her. Its time to park the old and start the new lets consolidate with the Tea Party an become 1 after all we are both after the same issue…………

I upport Karen 100% any time any where its time to clean out the club once an for all…….

  • Jack Murphy

Yes a great idea……How can I help Karen we the 2 Murphy s are with you 100%…I think it would be a nice change. An yes I sat on the floor an cried with you as did Toni an we cried for our party as well.

It will be refreshing to have new female leadership of our BREC…..

As to the makeup of the leadership that is your choice you know who helped and who hindered. Its time the party realized ELECTIONS DUE HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Us over the 65 years group are here to help in any way possible but we are missing our future BY NOT DRAGGING THE YOUNGER FOLKS TO THE PARTY. WE DO NEED CHANGE AND WE NEED IT BADLY…..

For those who worked to achieve this result may God shine on your work, an on your project and bless your thinking greatly..

I remain a helper any time any place……GOD BLESS US ALL

  • Jay Narang

Karen – I wholeheartedly support your candidacy. Yes, this is my endorsement. You are a patriot for yet again agreeing to sacrifice your private time to serve the American people. God Bless ! – Jay Narang.

  • NOPC

I think this is good news, although I agree with Karen on most things,
I never… even remotely trusted DeNapoli. Good Luck though Karen..I may even join BREC !

  • David Crespo

    THATS GOOD NEWS! HURAH!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sarah Biggs

stupid… Karen just wants to feel better about herself and finally accomplish something. She’s a total failure as a candidate. What a glorious waste of time during last political season.

“Hispanics are Republicans, they just don’t know it yet”, Ronald Reagan, 1980.

Reagan received 40 percent of the Hispanic vote. He did not shun them, and they did not shun him.

Both Bush Presidents and the Gingrich 1994 Revolution garned 40% of the Hispanic vote.

Top Democratic strategist said had Romney captured 40% of the Hispanic vote, Mitt would be President.

Sure, just look at all those free democratic republics in their Latin American countries of origin.

Sorry, the Gipper was wrong on this one. If you import 3rd worlders that refuse to learn the language and assimilate, they’ll tend to vote for the kind of candidates they’re used to back home. That’s the reality. How do we overcome that?

    Terrific News…

Harrington BREC Slate includes all minorities where our Party needs desperate visible outreach to these growing and disaffected niche voting markets.

Al Entin — Jewish American — Vice Chair

Carolyn Kennedy — Black American Professional Woman — Secretary

Juan Garcia — Hispanic — Treasurer

These are all growing voting groups the 2012 GOP grossly underperformed with.

Let’s maintain our anti-socialism, free-market priciples, but intelligently grow the Party…otherwise we perish and stand on the Titanic.

Harrington will be a revolutionary BREC Chair breaking new outreach ground and a role model for all US GOP County Chairs in the nation.
